Institute of Egyptian Art & ArchaeologyAdditional Information for New Applicants and Continuing StudentsBelow is useful information on a variety of topics for new and returning (readmitted) graduate students. Applying for Financial Aid - FAFSAAll students who apply for financial aid from the University of Memphis, including graduate assistantships, must also apply for Federal Work-Study money through FAFSA. Students with Federal Work-Study funds are more likely to be granted assistantships than those without. To apply for Federal Work-Study funds, check YES to the quesiton "Are you interested in work-study employment that is arranged or sponsored by the school you plan to attend?" on the FAFSA application.NOTE: You do not have to apply for Federal loans in order to be considered for a Federal Work-Study award. Academic Common Market
"The Academic Common Market is designed to allow students from southern states to pay in-state tuition while attending The University of Memphis. This arrangement is available only for students whose home states do not offer the designated program. The participating states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. A list of available programs can be obtained from the state coordinator in a student's home state or from the office of the Assistant Vice Provost for Graduate Studies at the University of Memphis. There are two requirements: (1) Students must be fully admitted to a degree-seeking program that has been approved as an Academic Common Market program (non-degree and conditional students are ineligible); (2) Students must obtain a letter certifying residency from their home state's Academic Common Market coordinator." To determine if the program in Egyptian Art and Archaeology is available to students from your state through the Academic Common Market, check the Search for Programs portion of the ACM website. State of Tennessee on-line information about the Academic Commom Market is also available. International Students
http://academics.memphis.edu/gradschool/gradpr1.htm The Center for International Programs and Services provides support for international students who come to the University of Memphis. The Department of History website has an very helpful, brief outline of what to expect when applying to graduate study at the University of Memphis. This includes information for interntaional students. Readmission
(from the website of the Graduate School) - "Once accepted into a degree program, a student is expected to enroll every semester thereafter (excluding summer sessions) and make satisfactory progress toward the degree. A student who does not enroll for a fall or spring semester must apply for readmission. Submission of an application for readmission does not ensure acceptance. An application for readmission may be rejected or additional requirements may be imposed on the student. A readmitted student must follow the rules, prerequisites, and degree requirements listed in the Graduate Catalog. Students writing a thesis or dissertation or engaged in a culminating project must enroll on a continuous basis (fall and spring) until the thesis, dissertation, or project is complete. If, however, a student completes a thesis, dissertation, or project during a summer session, they must be enrolled [for] the applicable credit during the summer." An Acrobat PDF version of the Application for Readmission is available at: http://academics.memphis.edu/gradschool/gradschool_pdf/readmission.pdf |
